BT invited along on 350.org’s “Do the Math” tour

Not only did Bill McKibben and Naomi Klein star in the “Do the Math” tour — 350.org’s national tour of US this fall to organize campuses to divest from the fossil fuel industry — so did Beautiful Trouble.

Every progressive with a laser printer or a t-shirt shop wanted to sell their merch alongside this tour, which visited over 20 cities on a gruelling schedule, sometimes selling out venues to multiple-thousands of attendees, but 350.org chose to limit merch to a few official items — including Beautiful Trouble :-)

The “Do the Math” tour was sparked by McKibben’s landmark article in Rolling Stone, “Global Warming’s Terrifying New Math,” and is the latest push in 350.org’s efforts to build a grassroots movement to counter the devastating effects of the global climate crisis.  On December 4th the New York Times wrote about the effort, and about why some colleges are resisting the call.

To date, more than 100 college campuses have joined the campaign and pledged to divest their endowments from the fossil fuel industry.

Andrew Boyd, one of BT’s editors, saw the show in New York City where BT author Joshua Kahn Russell MC’d an event that felt more like a mass-workshop cum rock-concert than a lecture tour.
